Even with all the energy Hazen pours into its client work, there’s still creative juice to spare. So we have several extra-curricular creative outlets. Here are all the ones that have an online component. In some cases it’s only the online component. Peruse the sites below, and please let us know what you think.
Hazen Projects is brought to you by Hazen Creative, Inc., a graphic design studio in Chicago, Illinois.
Featured Project:
Abstruckt
In August 2011, Shawn Hazen took a cross-country road trip. Since he’s a graphic designer, it’s no surprise that when driving he found himself checking out the graphics and branding on the countless semis sharing the road with him.
Having already documented the trucking company logos for The Flavor on a previous road trip, this time the idea was to capture snippets of the trucks’ graphics for a series of abstract compositions. This site is a gallery, though it eventually may offer print sets of the best ones.
Design Blogs

Book Worship
Book cover design from the 60s and 70s. Shawn has a ridiculous collection of obscure books with graphic covers.

The Flavor
A general design blog. Typography, logo design, posters, historical stuff, art, photography—you name it.

ChicagoType
This site has been documening the rich, ecclectic history of commercial and vernacular typography in Chicago since 2006.

Futureness
A gallery of futurist and futuristic images.

Gridness
A page composed with a smart grid is a beautiful thing to behold—if you’re a true design nerd.
Products

Robotcha
A robot t-shirt design company, run by Shawn and his young son Finn, who comes up the ideas for the robots.

Nope Magazine
An online art and design magazine. Artists and designers from all over are invited to interpret a theme.
